Rescue dogs
Like many English people in Spain we have been unable to ignore the plight of abandoned and ill treated animals. Bambi above was the first dog we rescued in our village, we had already inherited the previous owners German Shepherd and Pointer, Nina and Molly. Nina and Molly had already had a difficult start in their lives; Molly the German shepherd having been thrown from a car as a pup and Nina abandoned and left behind by her owners, both had ended up at JJ´s puppy rescue and formed a bond with each other. As they were such beautiful dogs and inseparable, I decided in spite of the nature of the business that I am setting up I would try to keep them. However I wasn´t expecting that I would be so torn when confronted with other abandonados. It really is difficult here and when do you turn your back?
Our latest rescue 'Blanco' 
Was in September. I saw him outside running around with the village children, he was confident and didn´t look as though he had been ill treated but at about 5 months old and with no road sense he did seem very vulnerable. I was about to bring a group from the airport so the timing was not good. I kept on eye on him and gave him food but I guess if you are reading this you know how it goes, we are all so soft when it comes to vulnerable animals. There was building work going on in the village and I was afraid that he would be hurt. By this time I now had my group settled in, 3 lovely ladies from the UK who did not know each other but had come out for Pilates and a rest and who insisted that I bring him in. It is so difficult as I am running the house as a retreat centre and it is hard to keep the dogs contained and not let them bother visitors, (believe it or not, not everyone is a dog fan and some positively dislike dogs. Not everyone wants to come on a retreat holiday and be confronted with a Family of dogs, no matter how cute or well behaved they are). Hence when we have visitors we send two or three at least to kennels (more expense)!! Anyway the outcome for Blanco was brilliant one of my guests Helen wants to offer him a home in the UK and he will go to her in the spring....BUT.... a big BUT, during another week when once again we were lucky enough to have a great dog loving couple here, Belinda and Ben; we had our Bambi in season! Now you may say why wasn´t she spayed but the money was just not there and it hadn't been a problem until then. In an attempt to keep the dogs out of the way we built an enclosure which Molly just hated and took to jumping over. One awful night unbeknown to us Molly got trapped by the fence and was not discovered until the morning, she was badly hurt and needed an emergency vet. During this time Blanco and Bambi got together and now we have puppies due any day. Molly is recovered by the way!
So if you have taken the time to read our story, please let us know if you or anyone you know wants a puppy or can foster until homes are found. Although not born yet they will be gorgeous pups!!! We also desperately need a home for Dylan as he is just one too many big dogs in the space we have. A really lovely boy, who will make a great companion, pet and protector.
Dylan is looking for a home, he is well behaved, loving and responsive. About 14 months old and was found living by the bins in San Isidro. He is castrated, inoculated and has all his injections and a passport. He deserves a loving home.
Roger 'the lodger' lived outside of our gate for about a month before moving in to the garden, we couldn´t get near him as he had been cruelly treated. He had bad legs and sores where he had either been beaten or hit by a car! Roger is now the most loving little dog I have ever knownand is fit, healthy and confident
