What is Pilates?
Pilates is a proven exercise technique, developed over seventy years ago by Joseph Pilates. For years it has been a well kept secret within the worlds of sport, the performing arts and for the preserve of the rich and famous. Thankfully, Pilates is now more widely available through the Body Control Pilates method.
It is supported by Physiotherapists and Osteopaths and many Doctors are now also recommending it to their patients. Pilates lengthens, strengthens and re-aligns the body by working on key postural muscles.
The Classes
The classes are approximately 75 minutes in duration and held in a calm atmosphere with soothing background music. They are run as blocks of 6 week courses at 42 euros per course payable in advance to ensure a place.Drop in classes are not recommended but are available at 9 Euros per session. Classes and individual private sessions also available.
Please note that you must attend a workshop before attending classes

Pilates Workshop
During a workshop you will learn the basics of matwork Pilates. It is necessary to understand the basics before commencing classes. It is a slow and controlled and precise technique combining both mental and physical training to improve body awareness and focus.
You will learn the eight key principles Relaxation, Breathing, Concentration, Flowing Movements, Alignment, Co-ordination, Centering and Stamina. Pilates teaches you to be in control of your body, literally from inside out. By practising the Pilates method correctly and using the exercise technique on a regular basis you will be building a body that is long and lean, supple and strong, with improved posture and breathing. It also promotes the release of tension and stress, encouraging relaxation.
Hence you will find your general health and wellbeing improving significantly. Once you have completed an introduction to Pilate’s workshop you will be ready to start classes.
Cost for the workshop is dependant on venue but starts at 10 Euros and the duration will be approx 2 and a half hours in which time you will receive personal attention and advice and hopefully a good understanding of the method, in readiness to get you started in class.
